MY MOTHER'S CHOCOLATE PIE

My Mother's Chocolate Pie image

This is a delicious chocolate pie that I remember my mother making from the time I could remember such things. I'm sure she made up the recipe herself.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup(s) granulated sugar
1 pinch(es) salt
2 cup(s) milk
7 tablespoon(s) cocoa, unsweetened
5 tablespoon(s) sifted all-purpose flour
3 - egg yolks
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
1 tablespoon(s) butter
1 - baked pie crust

Steps:

  • Cook sugar, salt, milk, cocoa, flour, and egg yolks in double boiler until thick.
  • Add vanilla and butter. Pour into baked pie crust.
  • Most of the time, Mother made a meringue from the egg whites and browned the pie in the oven. Later in life, she used either real whipped cream or Cool Whip instead, and I liked that just as much. Easier!

My mom made this pie when we were young and passed the recipe down to me. My mom passed on to Glory in 1996 and whenever I make this pie, I think of her.
