This easy coleslaw is great because it lasts refrigerated so long. The longer you let it marinate, the better it tastes.-Mildred Iglehart, Calhoun, Kentucky

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 large head cabbage (about 3 pounds), shredded
1 large onion, chopped
2 cups sugar
DRESSING:
1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon celery seed

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, lightly toss cabbage, onion and sugar; refrigerate. In a saucepan, combine dressing ingredients; bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and cool for 1 hour. Pour over cabbage mixture and toss. Chill at least 1 hour before serving. Coleslaw may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 9 days.

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
1 tablespoon honey
1 lemon, juiced
Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 Granny Smith apple, cut into thin matchsticks
1 Honeycrisp apple, cut into thin matchsticks
1 head fennel, thinly sliced, plus 1 tablespoon fronds, for serving

Steps:

  • Whisk together the oil, mustard, honey, lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl. Add the mint, parsley, apples and fennel and toss them together until they are coated in the dressing. Top with the fennel fronds. Serve immediately.

3 lb cabbage shredded
1 large red onion diced small
1 large yellow pepper diced small
3 large carrots shredded
2 c sugar
1 Tbsp celery salt
1 c white vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 c salad or canola oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine first 4 ingredients and pour sugar on all. Mix with hands until well covere
  • 2. Place next 5 ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil
  • 3. Pour over cabbage mixture and cool. Cover and store in refrigerator. You can pray that it lasts 9 days but good luck with that

1 head cabbage, finely shredded (ABOUT 6 TO 8 CUPS)
1 small onion, grated
1 small carrot, grated
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise
4 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
salt and pepper
1/4-1/2 cup milk

Steps:

  • Mix dressing ingredients until smooth.
  • place sliced cabbage in colander, sprinkle with salt and mix well.
  • let drain for at least 1/2 hour.
  • squeeze cabbage in colander with hands to remove excess water.
  • mix onion and carrot into cabbage.
  • add dressing, and mix well.
  • cover and refrigerate for a few hours to let flavors develop.

1 cup vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons celery seeds
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 lbs cabbage, thinly shredded
1 cup onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup green pepper, finely chopped
1/2 cup sweet red pepper, finely chopped
2 cups sugar

Steps:

  • Combine dressing ingredients in saucepan; bring to a boil. Cool.
  • Combine the cabbage, onion, peppers and sugar. Let stand until sugar dissolves.
  • Pour cooled dressing over cabbage mixture; chill. Coleslaw keeps well in the refrigerator.

We loved it, the only problem she usually served it with canned peas which we hated and tried to sneak to the dog when no one was looking....LOL Sorry Daddy!! NOT! She was and still is to this day a wonderful cook at the age of 82. God bless...

1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
3/4 c instant oats
1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 medium onion diced
1 egg slightly beaten with
3/4 c evaporated milk

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all of the above ingredients and shape into 6 small loaves
  • 2. Place in a baking dish that has been sprayed with pam
  • 3. TOPPING 1/3 C Catsup 1 T Brown sugar 1 T prepared mustard
  • 4. Combine topping ingredients and spread over the top of each meat loaf
  • 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes
  • 6. Serve with mashed potatoes and My Granny Helens 9 day slaw. Enjoy
