Nothing says "fall is here" quite like the smell of tender-baked apples filling your home. This simple and downright delicious apple crisp gives you all the flavor you could ever ask for in a dessert, and is as quick to make as it is to finish. The cherry on top? A generous topping of cream or vanilla ice cream.

4 medium tart cooking apples, sliced (4 cups)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cream or Ice cream, if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  • Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream until well mixed; sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with cream.

1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup oatmeal (quick or old fashioned)
1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
8 medium apples, peeled & sliced (about 6 cups)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine brown sugar, oats, flour and cinnamon.
  • Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Arrange 1/2 of the apple slices in a buttered 8 inch square baking dish.
  • Sprinkle apples with half of the sugar mixture.
  • Top with remaining apples, followed by the remaining sugar mixture.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until apples are tender.
  • Serve warm.

This is not the lowest fat recipe in the world but it's so good! =) I use crisp tart apples and find that it nicely compliments the sweet crust.

1 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 1/4 cups oats
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1 1/4 cups flour
about 4 cups thinly sliced apple

Steps:

  • Combine all but the apple until crumbly.
  • Pat half in the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan.
  • Pour apples over crust and top with remaining crumb mixture.
  • Bake at 350 until apples are soft.
  • Very good warm, cold, or with ice cream.

2/3 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Bisquick
1/4 cup melted margarine or 1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Peel apples and slice into baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with some sugar and cinnamon.
  • Mix oatmeal, brown sugar, Bisquick, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Sprinkle over the apples.
  • Bake until tender -- about 35-40 minutes at 375°F.
