2 cups orange juice
2 cups fresh cranberries
Champagne, chilled, for serving
Frozen cranberries, for serving

Steps:

  • Bring the orange juice and cranberries to a boil in a large pot until the berries just begin to burst. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve and let cool to room temperature.
  • Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of the juice into each of 4 flutes. Top with the champagne and garnish with frozen cranberries.

WINTER CRANBERRY COCKTAIL

This vodka cocktail topped with fizzy ginger ale has a trio of flattering fruit flavors: cranberry, lime and orange.

4 ounces cranberry juice
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon agave nectar or honey
Five 3-inch-long strips orange zest
4 ounces vodka
Cold ginger ale, for serving

Steps:

  • Combine the cranberry juice, lime juice, agave and 1 strip of the orange zest in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Add the vodka and shake until the shaker begins to get frosty on the outside. Strain the cocktail into 4 martini glasses and top each with some ginger ale. Serve with an orange twist from the remaining strips of zest.

8 ounces vodka
3/4 cup cranberry juice
3/4 cup pineapple juice
3 ounces orange liqueur, such as Grand Mariner or Cointreau
One 7.5-ounce can ginger ale
Berry-Lemonade Ice Cubes, recipe follows
Club soda, for serving
Orange slices, for serving
Fresh blueberries, blackberries or quartered strawberries, for the ice cube trays
2 cups lemonade or limeade

Steps:

  • Add the vodka, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and orange liqueur to a pitcher and stir to combine. Pour in the ginger ale.
  • Fill 4 highball glasses with the Berry-Lemonade Ice Cubes and pour the punch evenly among the glasses. Serve topped with club soda and an orange slice. (Alternatively, pour the vodka punch into mason jars with lids and store, covered, in the refrigerator, adding ice and garnishes before serving.)
  • Make the ice cubes the night before: Sprinkle the berries into an ice cube tray. Top with the lemonade or limeade and place in the freezer until frozen, at least 4 hours. Pop the ice out of the tray and store in a resealable plastic bag. Makes about 16 ice cubes.

  • Cran-Rosemary Sparkler
  • For each drink, muddle 4 cranberries, 1 sprig rosemary and 3/4 ounce maple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 ounces gin and 3/4 ounce each cranberry juice and sweet vermouth. Add ice and shake vigorously, then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Top with champagne; garnish with rosemary.
  • Cranberry Kir Royale
  • For each drink, combine 1 ounce cranberry juice and 1/2 ounce creme de cassis in a flute. Add a cranberry and top with champagne.
  • NYC Cosmopolitan
  • For each drink, combine 1 1/4 ounces each vodka and simple syrup, 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice and 1/4 ounce each citrus vodka, orange liqueur and cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously, then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

  • Fill a shaker three-fourths full with ice cubes., Add vodka, schnapps, lemonade concentrate and juice to shaker; cover and shake until condensation forms on outside of shaker, 10-15 seconds. Strain into 4 cocktail glasses. Place a skewer with 4 cherries in each glass.
