Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup of powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons maraschino cherry juice
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
6 drops of red food coloring
2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
Approximately 50 Hershey Kiss candies

Steps:

  • in a large bowl beat your butter, powdered sugar, and salt until well blended. Add in cherry juice, almond extract and food coloring. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in cherries. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place 1 inch apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until bottoms are light brown. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into center of each cookie. The cookie will crack around the edges. Cool on pan for 2 minutes then move to a cooling rack.

I quick recipe I came up with to add to a hecktic St. Paddy's Day menu. I'm almost embarrased to post it - it's too easy!

1 (17 1/2 ounce) package sugar cookie mix (Betty Crocker)
green food coloring
1 egg
1/2 cup butter
18 hershey's dark chocolate kisses (unwrapped)

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare cookies according to package directions. 2. This is where you'll add the egg and butter (or whatever your mix calls for). Add the green food coloring to the egg before blending with the mix and butter.
  • 3. Cook for about 9 minutes, until edges are a light brown.
  • 4. Immediately press the dark chocolate kiss into the center of the warm cookie.
  • 5. Let rest on the cookie sheet for a minute and then cool on a separate plate.
  • 6. Be sure to kiss each person who receives a cookie!

FIVE HOUR COOK TIME! This corned beef almost prepares itself, and the flavor is dinner-party worthy, but comfort food good. BTW - The veges didn't work for my family's taste, but our guests loved them! (Dan Smith/Steve McDonagh)

3 lbs corned beef brisket
4 garlic cloves, smashed
2 large shallots, peeled and halved
2 tablespoons pickling spices
2 teaspoons caraway seeds
24 ounces Harp lager beer (anything not light)
1/2 cup Irish whiskey (Jameson or Bushmill)
6 carrots, peeled, cut into 2-inch
6 red potatoes, in 2-inch cubes
4 sprigs fresh dill

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250.
  • Place corned beef in large roasting pan (w/lid).
  • Add garlic, shallots, spices, beer and whiskey.
  • Cover and place in the oven.
  • Braise 3 hours, turning the meat once.
  • After 3 hours, add carrots, potatoes and dill.
  • Cover again and braise additional 2 hours.
  • Allow to stand 5-10 minutes.
  • Serve immediately.
