- In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, cook sausage, garlic, green pepper and onion over medium heat until the sausage is no longer pink; drain. Add the tomato sauce and seasonings; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Spoon about 1/2 cup onto each roll; sprinkle with cheese.

We added Italian pork sausage to classic sloppy joes for a grown up taste that kids will love too. Replace the store-bought marinara with Make-Ahead Roasted Roma Tomato Sauce for deeper tomato flavor.

- Heat 10-inch skillet over medium heat. In large bowl, mix together beef and pork; add to skillet. Add onions, bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic, salt and pepper; mix well. Cook, stirring frequently, until beef and pork are no longer pink and vegetables until tender.
- Stir in marinara and barbecue sauces. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low to low; simmer 10 to 15 minutes or until thickened.
- Serve beef-pork mixture in buns.

- In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked and onion is tender; drain. Stir in fennel seed, salt and pepper.
- Stir in wine, brown sugar, tomatoes and oregano. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered about 15 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened.

These tasty sloppy joes with plenty of mass appeal are perfect for a gathering. If you're taking them to an event later in the day, simplify your morning by cooking the beef mixture and stirring in other ingredients the night before. Cool the meat sauce in shallow bowls in the fridge, then cover and refrigerate them overnight. - Cook the beef, sausage, peppers and onion in a Dutch oven over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 6-qt. slow cooker. Stir in the spaghetti sauce, tomatoes, mushrooms, tomato paste, garlic and bay leaves., Cover and cook on high until flavors are blended, 4-5 hours. Discard bay leaves. Serve on buns, 1/2 cup on each. Freeze option: Freeze cooled meat mixture in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a saucepan, stirring occasionally and adding a little broth or water if necessary.
