Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup hot water
1 tablespoon butter, softened
TOPPING:
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Whipped topping

Steps:

  • Combine flour, sugar, salt, ginger and baking soda; set aside. In a bowl, beat egg, molasses, water and butter until smooth. Gradually add the dry ingredients; beat for 1 minute. Pour into a greased 8-in. square baking pan. Combine the sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over gingerbread. , Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely before cutting. Top each square with whipped topping.

Everytime we have a function, I'm asked to make the Gingerbread.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 c brown sugar
1 c mozola oil
1 c grandma's molasses
2 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice, ground
2 tsp ginger (you can add more if you want)
1 c hot water
2 tsp baking soda
2 c flour

Steps:

  • 1. Boil water, turn down low until ready to use.
  • 2. In a separate bowl mix all dry ingredients together, except baking soda.
  • 3. Mix oil, brown sugar, molasses & eggs until well blended
  • 4. Gradually add dry ingredients, scraping sides of bowl enuring all is blended
  • 5. Carefully add baking soda to hot water (will foam up). Turn mixer down to lowest speed, slowly add hot water, a little at a time. Batter will be watery
  • 6. Bake in greased (Pam - Baking Spray) loaf pan @ 325 degrees for 45mins. (I use 3sml/2lrge laof pans)
  • 7. NOTE: Watch bakes fast

  • Cool before cutting, and serve with dollop of whipped cream.

1/2 cup boiling water
11/2 teaspoons ginger
21/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons melted butter

Steps:

  • Add water to molasses. Mix and sift dry ingredients, combine mixtures, add butter, and beat vigorously. Pour into a buttered shallow pan, and bake twenty-five minutes in a moderate oven. Chicken fat tried out and clarified furnishes an excellent shortening, and may be used in place of butter.
