SLOW COOKER HOT DOGS

Feed a crowd with hot dogs in the slow cooker. Tastes just as good as hot dogs off a food cart!

Time 3h5m

Number Of Ingredients 1

56 hot dogs (more or less works, this is the amount I used) (See my notes below for hot dog sizes)

Steps:

  • Tall round sow cooker - this slow cooker can handle a longer hot dog such as Hebrew national or bun length, though regular ones work fine here too.Oval slow cooker - standard size hot dogs recommended (bun length or Hebrew national will not fit standing up).If you buy hot dogs that are too long, this cooking method will still work. Though the hot dogs will need to be laid on their sides. If you are worried about if they will fit, measure the inside of your slow cooker from the lip down, and bring a measuring tape to the store.
  • Place the hot dogs in your slow cooker standing up, if they do not fit with the lid on standing up, place them on their sides.
  • DO NOT ADD WATER. The hot dogs have plenty of moisture. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 2.5 to 3 hours. It takes time for the hot dogs in the center to warm up.
  • Turn the slow cooker to warm after the cooking time is up. They can keep for up to 3 hours on the warm setting.

CROCK POT HOT DOGS

Crock Pot Hot Dogs image

We love the ease of cooking hot dogs in the Crock Pot. The sauce is sweet and tangy. Cut the hot dogs into bite-size pieces for an easy appetizer as Sheree suggests. Or, you could keep them whole and serve them on a bun with the delicious sauce drizzled on top (a different and tasty way to enjoy hot dogs). Your taste buds will be...

HOT DOGS IN THE CROCKPOT

Hot Dogs in the Crockpot image

I found these directions over at the TOH site and I couldn't wait to try them. I want to tell you: these are delicious dogs. They are crispy, yet plump, moist and juicy. Delicious! The directions have also appeared in the little recipe book that comes with the crockpot, but I don't recall ever having seen them before.

Time 2h2m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (1 lb) package hot dog (all-beef suggested)
1 (16 ounce) package hot dog buns (8 in a package)
1 (16 ounce) can chili (Hormel No-Bean Chili suggested or choose your favorite) (optional)

Steps:

  • Place the hotdogs in the crockpot, leaving space between them and having them touch the sides of the pot. Where they make contact with the surface of the crockpot they will be brown and crispy.
  • Cover and cook the hot dogs on the HI setting for 2 hours. Do not lift the lid of the crockpot while they are cooking. Do not add water or anything else to the crockpot.
  • If you have another crockpot or crockette, use it to heat the chili, if you wish to make chili dogs. If you'd rather, sauerkraut may be heated in the crockette instead of the chili.
  • A few minutes before serving, place hot dog buns in the crockpot the the dogs to warm up and soften the buns.
  • You might enjoy setting up a hotdog bar for your teen-ager's special function. Set out the crocks of hotdogs and chili (or kraut) also with other condiments like mustard, relish, etc. so the teens can help themselves.
