1 (16 ounce) package pork sausage
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
ground black pepper to taste
2 (16 ounce) packages frozen cut green beans
1 (2.8 ounce) can French-fried onions

Steps:

  • Crumble the pork sausage into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until evenly browned. Drain grease, and set aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a 9x13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, garlic, and pepper. Mix in the sausage, then add the green beans, and stir until evenly coated. Pour half of the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the fried onions. Spread remaining green bean mixture over the onions.
  • Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven, and sprinkle the rest of the fried onions over the top. Return to the oven for 5 to 10 more minutes, or until the onions are toasty, and green beans are cooked to your desired doneness. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

1/4 pound lean ground beef
1 can (8.3 ounces) baked beans
1/3 cup crushed butter-flavored crackers (about 9 crackers)
3 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons chopped onion
1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a small skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. 8 ounces dried great northern beans (1-1/4 cups)
1 tablespoon canola oil or 1 tablespoon olive oil
6 chicken thighs, skinned (about 2-1/4 pounds total)
2 medium carrots, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, cut into thin wedges
1 stalk celery, sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can no-salt-added diced tomatoes, undrained
6 ounces smoked sausage, cooked, cut into bite-size pieces
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • Rinse beans. In a large saucepan combine beans and 4 cups cold water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover; let stand for 1 hour. (Or, soak beans in water overnight in a covered pan.) Drain beans and rinse. In the same saucepan combine beans and 4 cups cold water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Stir in drained beans, undrained tomatoes, sausage, thyme, salt, and, if desired, cayenne pepper. Bring to boiling. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart rectangular baking dish. Arrange chicken thighs on top.
  • Bake, uncovered, about 25 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink (180 degrees F).

1 tablespoon sunflower oil
8 pork and herb sausages
1 sliced onion
2 sliced celery ribs
2 sprigs fresh thyme
2 tablespoons tomato puree
1 tablespoon flour
150 ml red wine
600 ml chicken stock or 600 ml vegetable stock
410 g haricot beans or 410 g cannellini beans, drained and rinsed

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a casserole dish. Add the sausage and brown. Remove the sausage and set to one side. Add the onion, celery and thyme and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add the tomato puree and flour and cook for approx 1 minute.
  • Pour in the wine, bring to the boil and bubble to reduce it by about 2/3rds. Add the stock and bring back to the boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Halve the sausages diagonally and return them to the pan. Simmer for 15 minutes until the sausage cooks through and the sauce thickens.
  • Stir in the beans and cook for a further 5-10 minutes to heat them through; season to taste.

1 lb lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
2 (14 ounce) cans pork and beans, or beans in tomato sauce if you prefer
1 (14 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300F degrees.
  • In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp; remove and drain fat from skillet; crumble bacon and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, brown the ground beef and onion; drain off any fat.
  • Combine all ingredients in a casserole dish and bake for 2 hours; I keep it covered during the first hour, then remove the cover and stir, and leave the cover off for the last hour of cooking, although the original recipe did not specify this.
