When I was young, my family grew our own cabbages. It was fun to put them to use in the kitchen, just as I did with this comforting side. With potatoes, deviled eggs and cornbread, fried cabbage tastes like home. -Bernice Morris, Marshfield, Missouri

TURKEY CABBAGE BAKE

Turkey Cabbage Bake image

"I revised this old recipe by using ground turkey instead of ground beef (to make it healthier), by finely chopping the cabbage to improve texture and by adding thyme," explains Irene Gutz of Fort Dodge, Iowa. "Crescent rolls help it go together quickly, and it's often requested."

FRIED CABBAGE & SAUSAGE

Fried Cabbage & Sausage image

Love fried foods but trying to eat healthy so I thought I would try to fry some cabbage without grease but still wanted the fried in grease flavor. The following recipe is what I came up with. Husband thought it was fried in grease.

Provided by Dana Jenkins

Categories     Turkey

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 medium head of cabbage
1 pkg turkey sausage
can(s) olive oil cooking spray
2 tsp salt
2 tsp vegetable seasoning
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce

Steps:

  • 1. Spray generously a non-stick skillet with olive oil cooking spray.
  • 2. Slice package of turkey sausage in half then slice into thirds lengthwise.
  • 3. Place sausage into medium heated skillet. Cook until carmelized on both sides but not burnt. Remove sausage from skillet and place in glass bowl. (do not place on paper towels). Spray skillet with additional cooking spray. Take wooden spoon and loosen any browning on bottom of skillet.
  • 4. While sausage is cooking, wash and shred cabbage.
  • 5. Place cabbage in heated skillet with browning and stir to coat cabbage with browning and cooking spray. After cabbage is coated and starts to wilt, turn heat down to low. Stir occasionally.
  • 6. Dice one half of the Sausage and put in skillet with cabbage before cabbage wilts. Add one half of the spices. Let simmer for 20 minute or until the consistency is the way you like. I like mine crunchy, my husband likes his soft. Add the other half of the spices, stir. Add slices to the top and enjoy.
