This delicate dish loaded with ham, cheese and bread cubes in an egg mixture is perfect for brunch or supper. Light and fluffy casserole that is sure to please your guests. 2 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon mustard powder
3 cups cubed fully cooked ham
8 ounces Cheddar cheese, cubed
3 cups cubed day old French bread
4 eggs, beaten
3 cups milk
1 dash hot pepper sauce
3 tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Generously grease a 9x13-inch glass baking dish with softened butter. Stir together flour and mustard powder. Place ham and Cheddar cubes in a large mixing bowl, sprinkle with flour mixture, and toss until evenly coated. Add bread cubes and toss to mix. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and hot pepper sauce.
  • Pour 1/3 of the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth out to form a layer. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of butter, and sprinkle with 1/3 of the Parmesan cheese. Repeat twice more to form three layers. Pour egg mixture overtop, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate 8 hours to overnight.
  • The next morning, remove casserole from refrigerator, remove plastic wrap, and allow to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake uncovered in preheated oven until the eggs have set, and the top is golden brown and crispy, about 1 hour.

4 eggs
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 slices bread
2 tablespoons soft butter
2 tablespoons mustard
4 slices cheese (your preference)
4 slices cooked ham
butter (for frying)

Steps:

  • Beat together eggs, cream and salt in pie plate.
  • Spread tops of the slices of bread evenly with the butter, then the mustard.
  • Top four slices of the bread with the cheese and ham.
  • Place other four slices on top and dip into the egg mixture.
  • Place sandwiches in preheated skillet with butter added and cook each side until golden brown.
  • If cooked in batches, keep warm in oven until all sandwiches are done.

1 1/3 cups milk (may use low fat)
2/3 cup water
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon flour
4 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
6 large eggs
12 ounces havarti cheese or 12 ounces swiss cheese
12 ounces ham

Steps:

  • Make crepe batter: In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and whisk until very smooth. This can also be done in a food processor. Set batter aside to rest for about 15 minutes before using. Batter can also be covered and refrigerated for up to two days.
  • Add some butter or nonstaick spray to a large frying pan (about 12-inches) and heat over high heat. Pour about 1/3 cup crepe batter into the pan and tilt the pan to swirl it around and coat it with a single, even layer. Once the first side cooks, flip the crepe.
  • Crack an egg right on top of the crepe. Use a fork to gently break the egg yolk, give the egg a gentle whisk and spread it evenly all over the crepe. If you're worried about hitting the crepe during this step, you can scramble the egg in a bowl and pour it into the center of the crepe, the spread it around. Allow crepe to continue cooking until egg is set. Season with pepper, if desired.
  • Spread 2 oz cheese over half the crepe. Allow to melt for 30-60 seconds. Add 2 oz of ham on top of the cheese. Fold crepes in half, covering the ham and cheese side of the crepe with the side that only has egg on it. Fold crepe in half again, making a finished crepe that is 1/4 circle in area and packed with many layers of crepe, cheese, ham and egg.
  • Repeat with remaining batter, cheese, and ham.

1 medium loaf baguette French bread, cut into 1 1/2-inch thick slices
1/2 lb sliced deli ham
4 oz Cheddar cheese, sliced
7 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt

Maple syrup, if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Cut a slit in each slice of bread almost all the way through, leaving the bottom connected. Stuff each slit with slices of ham and cheese.
  • In medium bowl, beat 3 of the eggs with the milk, salt and pepper, using whisk. Pour into baking dish. Place the stuffed bread in baking dish; let stand 15 minutes.
  • Turn the bread over, and top with more cheese. Bake 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Set oven control to broil. Broil with tops of toast 3 to 5 inches from heat 2 to 3 minutes or until tops are golden brown.

Just a little note. The French call this sandwich a Mr. or a Mrs. Croque Monsieur due to the fact that there is a fried egg on top of the sandwich. Fried egg is a Mrs. & no fried egg is a Mr. I prefer mine as a Mr. This is very quick to make if you prepare everything in advance. Hope you enjoy it.

8 onions, thinly sliced
8 c beef stock
1 bay leaf
3 Tbsp garlic, minced
1/2 tsp dried thyme
black pepper & salt, to taste
french baquette, cut diagonally, lightly buttered on one side
stringing mozzarella or gruyere cheese, as desired
2 sourdough bread slices, each buttered
4 slices of muenster, gruyere, swiss or provolone cheese
8 ham, pref. honey baked ham, thinly sliced
1 fried egg, optional

Steps:

  • 1. SOUP: In a heavy large pot heat 3T of veg oil and add the onions. Caramelize the onions for about 20 minutes with. Don't forget to stir in the 20 minutes. When the onions are caramelize add the beef stock, bay leaf, garlic, dried thyme and bring to boil for another 20 minutes. While it comes to a boil get your bowls ready and the broiler ready. Make sure that the bowls you use are clay or even metal. NEVER USE PLASTIC!! Place the bowls on a heavy duty baking sheet lined with foil. Turn on your broiler, over 500 degrees. When the soup comes to a boil. Stir and add black pepper and salt to taste. Ladle into the prepared bowls. Heat a frying pan big enough to hold all the slices on french bread. Add the one buttered side to the hot pan. Toast till lightly brown & place on the soup in the bowls, toast side up. Add the cheese as much as you want. Repeat till all the bowls of soup are done. Place in broiler for about 5 minutes till cheese it melted. Bring out, carefully to not to spill. Let sit for another 5 min. Ready to serve. Enjoy!!
  • 2. SANDWICH: Place both slices, buttered side down, on a heated frying pan. Layer each side with your choice of cheese and place 4 slices of ham on both sides. Heat for about a minute, then fold over to make the sandwich. Place on a small baking sheet, spread Aioli over the top and add the fried egg (opt) with more cheese. Place in broiler for about 5 min, till cheese in melted. Serve. Enjoy.
  • 3. Aioli 2 egg yolks 2 T dijon mustard salt & pepper extra virgin olive oil, about 1/2 C - 3/4 C Add all the ingredients to a steal bowl, except the oil. Whisk till frothy. The easiest way to whisk so the bowl does not move is to wet a dish towel and twist and make into a circle. Place the bowl in the middle of the circle and press down. The bowl should not move. With the oil in one hand and the whisk in another, drizzle oil into bowl and whisk at the same time to make the sauce thicken. This is a basic recipe for mayonnaise. At this point you can add anything.... wasabi, hot mustard, herbs, roasted onions, roasted garlic, horse radish, gherkins....... the list is endless.

6 tablespoons butter, divided
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups half-and-half or milk
1/2 teaspoon salt, eyeball it
2 tablespoons prepared Dijon mustard, plus extra to pass at the table
3/4 pound French or French style ham, such as Mandrange, deli sliced or, sliced boiled ham
2/3 pound thinly sliced Gruyere or Swiss cheese (recommended: Emmentaler)
1 small jar cornichons or baby gherkin pickles, available on condiment aisle of market
1 small jar pickled onions, also available on condiments aisle

Steps:

  • Line up 8 slices of bread on a work surface.
  • Heat a small saucepot over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons butter and melt. Add flour to the butter and whisk together. Cook flour and butter together for 1 to 2 minutes, then whisk in half-and-half or milk. Bring sauce to a bubble and thicken another 1 or 2 minutes. Season sauce with salt, then whisk in prepared Dijon mustard.
  • Heat a large nonstick griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  • Spread each slice of bread with Dijon bechamel sauce and build 4 sandwiches with 2 or 3 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese per sandwich. Another one of my savoury "cake" recipes from France. This recipe is slightly more substantial than my Recipe #316039, as this recipe contains ham with white wine and port! Serve this as alternative sandwich bread or as a light snack spread with cream cheese or butter. This cake recipe will also make fantastic little appetisers if the loaf is cut into small cubes and served with olives, cubes of cheese and savoury spreads. Please note that the texture of this savoury cake is NOT like a sweet dessert cake - it will be slightly holey with a robust and slightly chewy texture, almost like sourdough.

180 g provolone cheese or 180 g swiss cheese, thinly sliced
100 g shaved ham
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
60 g butter, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Cut four 3cm-thick slices from loaf. Cut a pocket lengthways through the centre of each slice of bread (do not cut all the way through). Spread inside of pockets with mustard. Fill with cheese and ham.
  • Whisk eggs and milk in a shallow dish. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat a non-stick frying pan or barbecue plate over medium heat. Add half the butter and 1 tablespoon oil. Brush surface to coat. Dip bread, 1 slice at a time, into egg mixture and turn to coat. This lonely recipe has finally been adopted. I like the ingredients in this sandwich . You can bake these in the oven if you like but I made mine in my waffle iron. Delicious!

2 Tbsp orange marmalade
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 pkg 8 ounce sliced cooked ham
1 8 ounce loaf party rye bread
1/2 pkg 8 ounce sliced swiss cheese
2 Tbsp butter
1/4 c milk
1 egg

Steps:

  • 1. In cup, stir marmalade and mustard until mixed; set aside.
  • 2. Cut ham slices to fit on half of the bread slices; cut cheese slices to fit on top of ham, then top with a dollop of marmalade mixture and another bread slice.
  • 3. Preheat oven to 450. ( or preheat your waffle iron) to make sandwiches in).
  • 4. In 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 jellyroll pan, melt butter or margarine; remove pan from oven.
  • 5. In pie plate, with fork beat milk and egg until mixed.
  • 6. Dip sandwiches, one at a time, into egg mixture to coat all sides.
  • 7. Place sandwiches, in one layer, in jelly roll pan. ( or place in waffle iron-leave in until golden brown about 2-3 minutes)

1/2 cup butter, at room temperature, divided (plus extra for the dish)
12 -14 slices rye bread (with caraway seeds)
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 sweet onion, thinly sliced
3/4 lb (or thinly sliced) or 3/4 lb cheddar cheese, shredded (or thinly sliced)
3/4 lb thinly sliced cooked ham
6 large eggs
2 1/2 cups milk
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (or 1 t. dried)
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups homemade fine dry breadcrumbs or 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Butter a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
  • Using 3 tablespoons butter, lightly butter all the bread slices on one side.
  • Spread the mustard on top.
  • Arrange half of the bread slices, mustard side up, in the baking pan in one layer; cut to fit if necessary.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over med-low heat; add in the onion; saute for 25-35 minutes, stirring often, until the onion is softened.
  • Spread the onion evenly over the bread slices.
  • Top with half of the cheese and all of the ham.
  • Cover with the remaining cheese and then the remaining bread slices; press the layers together.
  • Beat the eggs, milk, basil, and salt together in a bowl; pour evenly over the layers, pressing them down slightly so they absorb the mixture.
  • Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  • Remove from the refrigerator 1 hour before baking.
  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Mix the breadcrumbs with the remaining 4 tablespoons butter and the parmesan cheese; sprinkle over the casserole.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture is set.
  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  • To serve, cut into squares.

1/4 cup milk

Steps:

  • Mix mayo and mustard; spread onto bread slices. Fill bread slices with ham and process cheese.
  • Whisk egg and milk in shallow dish until blended. Dip sandwich in egg mixture, turning to evenly moisten both sides.

8 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American cut in half
4 (1-ounce) slices deli ham, cut in half
3 large Land O Lakes® Eggs slightly beaten
1/3 cup Land O Lakes® Half & Half
3 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
Powdered sugar
Maple syrup

Steps:

  • Layer 8 slices bread each with 1 half slice cheese, 1 half slice ham, 1 half slice cheese and 1 slice bread.
  • Whisk eggs and half & half together in bowl; pour into pie pan. Dip both sides of stuffed bread into egg mixture.
  • Melt butter in 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until sizzling; place bread slices into skillet. Cook, turning once, 5-8 minutes or until bread is lightly browned.Sprinkle French toast with powdered sugar; serve with syrup.
