Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 2h

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/4 ounce dry active yeast (1 packet)
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1 cup hot water
1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/4 cup oil
2 1/2-3 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast, warm water, and sugar in a small bowl.
  • In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine hot water, granulated sugar, salt, and oil. Add 1 1/2 cups of flour to the mixture in the large bowl/mixer and mix well. Stir in yeast mixture.
  • Add 1 - 1 1/2 cups more flour and mix until well blended. (At this point your dough will still be quite sticky). Leave in bowl and let rise for 1 hour, mixing a few strokes a couple of times during the hour.
  • Divide dough into 2 (or 3 if you want smaller loaves) pieces. Roll out each piece on a floured surface into the length desired then roll up length wise like a jelly roll.
  • Put on a greased cookie sheet, sealed side down, and tuck the ends under. Slash the top diagonally across the top every couple of inches with a sharp knife. Brush with egg white. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Let loaves rise 30 more minutes.
  • Bake for 25 - 30 minutes.

One 2-foot-long wide loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
1/4 cup herbed garlic butter, melted
4 cups Sunny's 5-Ingredient Chili, recipe follows
1 cup shredded mozzarella (from a block)
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar (from a block)
16 slices fresh jalapeno (from 1 to 2 jalapenos)
2 scallions, chopped on the bias
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Hot sauce, for topping
Mexican crema, for drizzling

  • For the garnish: Top the pizza with the scallions, cilantro, a few shakes of hot sauce and a drizzle of crema. Slice each half into 8 pieces. Serve immediately.
  • Add 2 tablespoons olive or cooking oil, 2 1/2 teaspoons salt, a few grinds of black pepper and the onion to a large pot over medium heat and cook until tender. Add the chili powder and beef and cook, breaking up the beef into bits, until cooked through. Stir in the tomatoes and chiles and the beans, then cover and cook for 20 minutes. To thicken the chili further, simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes more.

EASY FRENCH BREAD

Easy French bread image

This recipe is so easy to make and even novice bread bakers will find this recipe easy to make and it will come out great too. I made this tonight to go with meatball bayonnaise with spicy tomato and pepper sauce sandwiches. That recipe will follow. I love sharing good recipes.

Provided by Lucille Hoerle @hoerlel

Categories     Savory Breads

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cup(s) flour
1 tablespoon(s) dry active yeast
1-2 teaspoon(s) salt
2 cup(s) warm water
- oil for bowl

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl, mix together the flour and the salt. 2. In another bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and half of the flour/salt mixture. Using your hands, mix until it forms a dough. If you own a mixer with a dough hook, mix and knead the dough with that instead. Then, cover with a dish cloth and let sit at room temperature for 3 hours. It should triple in size. 3. Gently incorporate the rest of the flour/salt, using your hands or dough hook. 4. Place on a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes. It should be supple and elastic when you stop kneading. 5. Lightly oil a bowl. Place dough in bowl. Cover with a dish towel. Let sit for 1 hour. It should double in size. 6. Preheat oven to 450°F. Knead again. Then cut dough into 3 parts and form each part into a long baguette. Place on a baking sheet. Let sit for at least 20 minutes. 7. Place a bowl of water in the oven. Bake baguettes for about 25 minutes (maybe less). Remove the bowl of water after 15 minutes of baking.
  • *I added a cup of King Arthur White Whole Wheat flour in place of one of the cups of white flour and it was delicious and a bit better for you. You can also experiment with more ww flour in place of the white according to your taste.
