Dill Salad Dressing is a spin on buttermilk ranch dressing. It's creamy, easy to make, and full of dill flavor.

1 cup mayonnaise
½ cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons dill pickle juice
1 tablespoon fresh dill
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dill weed (dried)
¼ teaspoon onion powder
Salt (to taste)

Steps:

  • Place all the ingredients, except salt, in a medium bowl.
  • Whisk until well combined. Taste, and add salt if desired.
  • Transfer to a sealable container, and refrigerate for 4 to 5 days.

I always offer this as a diet-friendly dip for raw vegetables at parties. It's one of my Tried & True favorites. It came from the 1975 edition of the American Heart Association Cookbook. It can also replace sour cream.

1 cup low fat cottage cheese
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/8 cup skim milk (or less to reach desired consistency)
1 dash salt
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
1 tablespoon onion, minced

Steps:

  • Place cottage cheese, lemon juice, skim milk, and salt in blender jar. Blend until creamy, adjusting the milk measure to produce desired consistency.
  • Mix in chopped fresh dill and minced onion.
  • Chill.
  • Serving size is 1 tablespoon, about 10 calories each.

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons dill weed
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup canola oil
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt, optional
SALAD:
4 cups torn romaine
2 cups torn Boston or Bibb lettuce
1 large green pepper, cut into strips
1 small cucumber, sliced
1 large tomato, chopped
1 carrot, shredded
4 green onions, sliced
3 radishes, sliced

Steps:

  • Whisk together first four ingredients; gradually whisk in oils and, if desired, salt until blended. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes., In a large bowl, toss together salad ingredients; refrigerate, covered, until serving. Serve with dressing, stirring to recombine if needed.
