CABBAGE ROLL CASSEROLE (CROCK POT VERSION)

Crock Pot Cabbage Roll Casserole! Deliciously easy, this Cabbage Roll Casserole recipe cooks up in the slow cooker all day. All of the flavor without all of the fuss, this is sure to become a regular in your dinner rotation!

1 ½ pounds lean ground beef or pork ((or a mixture of the two))
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1 onion (diced)
15 oz tomato sauce (divided)
1 cup water
10 ½ oz can condensed tomato soup
28 oz canned diced tomatoes (with juices)
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon thyme
¾ cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
1 medium head cabbage
⅓ cup water
1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese ((optional))

Steps:

  • Brown beef or pork, onion, garlic and seasonings over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain.
  • Add 1 cup tomato sauce, 1 cup water and ½ can of tomato soup and diced tomatoes to the beef.
  • Stir in rice, and mix well until heated through. Remove from heat.
  • Chop cabbage into 4 wedges and remove core. Chop into chunks (mine were about ¾"x1 ½").
  • Layer ½ of the meat mixture and ½ of the cabbage in the slow cooker. Repeat layers. Place half the meat and then half the cabbage in cooker.
  • Combine the remaining tomato soup, remaining tomato sauce and ⅓ cup water. Pour over top of cabbage.
  • Cook on low 4-6 hours or just until rice is cooked. Once done, turn slow cooker off, sprinkle cheese on top and let sit 10 minutes to set and melt cheese.

1/3 cup chopped onion
4 cups coleslaw mix
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 cup uncooked instant rice
1 1/2 cups water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat and drain.
  • Transfer to crock pot and add slaw mix, green pepper and rice.
  • In the microwave, dissolve bouillon cubes in water.
  • In a bowl, combine the water and tomato paste and stir in the remaining ingredients.
  • Pour over beef mixture and mix.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until rice and vegetables are tender.

1 pound ground beef
1/3 cup chopped onion
4 cups chopped cabbage
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 cup uncooked instant rice
1 cup water
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 to 2 tablespoons sugar, optional
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker; add cabbage, green pepper and rice. , In a large bowl, combine the water and tomato paste. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Pour over beef mixture; mix well. I usually use 1/4 cup of brown sugar & a dash of cinnamon (to counter act the acid of the tomatoes)... add when adding the tomatoes.... This is so much easier to do than actually making stuffed cabbage. Hope you enjoy it...

1 onion ,chopped
3 can(s) stewed tomatoes
1 can(s) tomato sauce
1 can(s) tomato soup
1/3 c brown sugar
seasoned salt, pepper, parsley flakes to taste
dash of worchester sauce,hot pepper flakes
1 head of cabbage sliced
prepared rice( i cook mine in chicken broth)

Steps:

  • 1. Brown meats & 1/2 chopped onion. Drain off fat.

1 -1 1/2 lb lean ground turkey or 1 -1 1/2 lb extra lean ground beef
2 cups chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 small head green cabbage, coarsely chopped
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, can add another 8- 15 oz if you like more sauce

Steps:

  • Spary crock pot with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Crumble the raw ground turkey (or beef) and spread along bottom of crock pot.
  • Add the onions, green pepper, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme and cabbage.
  • Pour the diced tomatoes over top.
  • Mix the sugar into the tomato sauce and pour over everything. If you like more sauce, add another 8-oz or 15-oz can of tomato sauce.
  • Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for about 4 hours.
  • When done, remove lid and stir to mix well.
