1 package (16 ounces) dried green split peas
2 smoked ham hocks
2 quarts water
2 medium carrots, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 celery rib, thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
1 teaspoon dried thyme
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine all ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 4-6 hours or until peas are tender. Skim fat; discard bay leaf. , Set ham hocks aside until cool enough to handle. Remove meat from bones; discard bones and cut ham into small pieces. Return meat to slow cooker; heat through.

This slow cooker split pea and ham soup is a fantastic soup for the winter. It's completely homemade, and the result shows as it's packed with flavor and looks amazing.

600 g (1.3 lb) ham hock
1 onion, diced
2 tsp garlic, crushed
2 carrots, diced
2 cups green split peas, rinsed
1 bay leaf
2 Tbsp sherry
1 l (1.1 qt) water
1 l (1.1 qt) chicken stock

Steps:

  • Add all the ingredients into a slow cooker.
  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • Remove the ham hock and put it to the side. Discard, the bay leaf.
  • Remove the skin from the ham and shred the meat. Discard the skin, fat, and bone.
  • Blend until smooth by using a food processor or stick blender.
  • Add the shredded meat into the soup.
  • Cook on low for 1 hour or until it's nice and hot.
  • Season to taste.
  • Serve & Enjoy.

1-1/2 pounds smoked ham hocks
2 cups each chopped onions, celery and carrots

  • In a 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the broth, ham hocks, vegetables, split peas and bay leaves. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until ham hocks and peas are tender. , Discard bay leaves. Remove meat from bones when cool enough to handle; cut ham into small pieces and set aside. ½ onion, diced
2 ribs celery, diced
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1 pound ham, diced

1 quart chicken stock

1 lean ham hock, cut into three pieces
1 lb dried split peas, rinsed
1 (14 ounce) can chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons redi-base low sodium chicken stock powder
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
2 -3 garlic cloves, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots, scraped and chopped
6 cups water

Steps:

  • Put ham, peas, vegetables, seasonings and stock powder in the pot.
  • Pour the can of chopped tomatoes and the water over it all.
  • Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours, on low for 6-7.
  • Remove the ham bones and the bay leaf.

1/4 cup olive oil
1 large onion, finely diced
2 celery stalks, finely diced
2 carrots, finely diced
One 1-pound bag split peas, rinsed and picked through
1 1/2 pound smoked ham hock
2 quarts chicken stock, water, or combination
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, saute onion, celery and carrots over medium-high heat. Add peas and ham hock and cover with stock by a couple inches. Bring to a simmer and cook about 1 hour until soup is thick and peas have almost disintegrated but not quite. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Remove ham hock and let cool. Pull meat from ham hock bone and shred. Garnish with ham and pepper.
