Slow-Cooker Caramel-Maple Pears image

Smother slow cooked pears in a delicious caramel and maple sauce. Mmmm.

6 yellow- or red-skinned pears, cored from bottom leaving stems attached
1 cup caramel ice cream topping
1/3 cup real maple syrup
Grated lemon peel

Steps:

  • Spray 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Place pears upright in cooker. (If all pears do not fit in bottom of cooker, place remaining pears suspended between 2 others in cooker.)
  • In small bowl, mix ice cream topping and syrup; pour over pears.
  • Cover; cook on High heat setting 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • Remove pears from cooker; place upright on serving plate or in individual dessert dishes. Spoon about 1/4 cup topping mixture over each pear; sprinkle with lemon peel.

6 pears
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon margarine or 1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 teaspoon orange zest
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons orange juice

Steps:

  • Peel pears.
  • Core pears from bottom, leaving stems attached.
  • Place pears upright in slow cooker.
  • Mix remaining ingredients except cornstarch and orange juice; pour over pears.
  • Cover and cook on high heat setting 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until tender.
  • Remove pears from cooker; place upright in serving dish or individual dessert dishes.
  • Mix cornstarch and orange juice; stir into sauce in cooker.
  • Cover and cook on high heat setting about 10 minutes or until sauce is thickened.
  • Spoon sauce over pears.
  • **Use 1/4 cup honey instead of the maple syrup for a change of pace.

Easy to make pear sauce recipe that is great for canning. Made with no added sugars, just simply delicious.

Number Of Ingredients 6

5 lbs Pears (Ripe Barlett pears are the best)
1/4 water
2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground Ginger
1/4 tsp Nutmeg

Steps:

  • Peel, remove seeds and roughly chop pears.
  • add water & lemon juice.
  • Cook on low in crockpot for 8-10 hours.
  • Check for tenderness of pears. If they are very tinder take a potato masher to mash to the chunky sauce level. Or for a smoother sauce use an immersion blender until smooth.
  • Add your spices.
  • Cover, turn off your crockpot and let them cool.
  • If canning this is a perfect time to get your canning supplies ready.
  • If not canning wait until they cool, then eat or store in the fridge until ready to eat, use within a week.
  • If canning fill either 2 clean quart jars or 4 clean pint jars.
  • For pressure canning put clean sterilized lids and rings on to hand tightness. Put jars in canner with manufacturer's recommended directions.
  • Then can at 6 lbs of pressure for 10 minutes.
  • For water bath canning follow directions for canning an apple sauce or apple pie filling recipe.
