Whats The Best Way to Cook Corn on the Cob for a Crowd? Cooler Corn! Am I the only person who hasn't heard of "cooler corn"! I recieved this from my Hubby's brother in Texas. Notsure exactly where he had gotten it, but it sure sounds like a great side dish when your having a alot of mouths to feed :o)

clean picnic cooler
cleaned and shucked corn on the cob
2 or 3 kettles of boiling water
margarine to taste
salt to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Wipe the inside of the cooler clean, then add the shucked ears. (Do not place the cooler on the edge of a counter top)
  • 2. Next, Carefully pour two or three kettles-full of boiling water over the corn and close the cooler lid. (No peeking)
  • 3. In about 30 minutes, your corn will be perfectly cooked and will remain at the perfect level of doneness for a couple of hours. Butter and salt your corn on the cob as you normally would.
  • 4. * I recieved this from my Brother In law, Notsure where he or his wife had gotten it from, but I'm sure glad he shared! His original message said they cooked 2 doz.

There are variations of this recipe out there. This is just my version. My family and friends love it. It is great for picnics, bar-b-ques and other get-togethers. The hardest thing is boiling the water....if you can do that, you can make some of the best corn on the cob you've ever tasted...... We love making it at the...

clean picnic cooler (ice chest)
cleaned and shucked corn on the cob (i did @ 2 dozen ears of corn)
large pot of boiling water (i use a large stock pot), enough to cover the corn
1/3 c granulated sugar (per large pot of water) (probably could use splenda)
1/3 c salt (per large pot of water)

Steps:

  • 1. In a large pot, add water, salt and sugar..... bring to a boil.
  • 2. Be sure the inside of the cooler is clean; add the shucked ears.
  • 3. Carefully pour boiling water over the corn and close the cooler lid. (DO NOT OPEN FOR AT LEAST 30 TO 40 MINUTES)
  • 4. In 30-40 minutes, your corn will be perfectly cooked and will remain warm for a couple of hours.
  • 5. The corn is perfect and really doesn't need anything, but you can butter it as you normally would. It is really sweet enough and salty enough without adding more.

¼ teaspoon white sugar
4 ears corn, husked and cleaned

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Stir sugar into water to dissolve; add corn, cover pot, and turn heat off, leaving pot on hot burner.
  • Steep corn in hot water until tender, about 25 minutes.
