These cute coffin sandwiches our Test Kitchen created are such a breeze to decorate, kids could do it themselves. With ice cream sandwiches and the toppings of their choice, the frozen snacks are ready in a snap.

1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons vanilla frosting, divided
Orange and black paste food coloring
6 ice cream sandwiches
Yellow, brown and orange jimmies and/or Halloween sprinkles

Steps:

  • Tint 1/2 cup frosting orange and 1 tablespoon frosting black. Cut corners off each ice cream sandwich to form coffin shapes. Dip sides of sandwiches in jimmies. Frost tops with orange frosting. Decorate as desired with black frosting, remaining white frosting and jimmies and/or sprinkles. Freeze until serving.

2 slices whole wheat bread
3 slices oscar mayer smoked ham
1 piece cheese
1 tablespoon Miracle Whip
1 lettuce leaf

Steps:

  • CUT bread slices into coffin shapes.
  • LAYER with sliced meat, Singles, dressing and lettuce. Spear each sandwich with plastic toothpick to hold it together, if desired.
  • CUT sandwich into coffin shape using coffin template and sharp knife. (Click here to print template.) For an even stronger template, trace the template onto a piece of cardboard and cut out.

2 cups fresh basil, packed
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup walnut oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup Parmesan, grated
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large loaf pumpernickel bread
Mayonnaise
1 cup almond slivers, toasted
2 cups alfalfa sprouts
1 McIntosh apple, cored, seeded and sliced
2 cups aged Cheddar, minimum 5-years old, shaved

Steps:

  • For the pesto: Pulse together the basil, walnuts, walnut oil and garlic in a food processor until combined. Add the Parmesan and olive oil and pulse again.
  • For the sandwiches: Cut the pumpernickel into 1/2-inch slices, and then into coffin shapes. On each slice of bread, spread a layer of mayo, a layer of pesto, a sprinkling of almonds, alfalfa sprouts, a layer of apples, and shaved Cheddar.
  • Place another coffin-shaped bread slice on top and repeat for another layer. Top off with a final coffin slice.
