CITRUS GINGER INFUSED WATER

Citrus Ginger Infused Water image

Aside from curing old sea limeys of scurvy for centuries, citrus gives us our electrolytes, vitamin C and cleanses our bodies as we all know, but Ginger on the other hand has a completely different arsenal in store for us. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory, nausea staving, cancer killing, digestion kicking, cold fighting, soar...

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 3

8 c purified water
1 lemon
3" peeled ginger root

Steps:

  • 1. Not adding water yet, slice lemon in halves and gently squeeze juice of one half of the lemon into the jar as not to completely destroy the half. Cut both the squeezed and the remaining half into thin rings no thicker than 1/4" and drop those in the jar as well.
  • 2. Chop peeled ginger root into thin slivers to expose as much surface as possible and drop into the jar. Coin or stick shape will do fine.
  • 3. Pour water over the lemons and ginger giving it a good stir and then let sit in the fridge for a minimum of 30 min. Overnight is best. Serve cold and often. Cheers!
  • 4. ((Have fun with this concept. Adding scoops of melon, coins of cucumber, sprigs of mint, sprigs of parsley, orange slices and many other refreshing fruits, veggies or herbs will only make the water more exciting, refreshing and healthy.)) Do not add sugar!

CITRUS AND AVOCADO SALAD WITH ORANGE WATER

Citrus and Avocado Salad with Orange Water image

Salting the citrus draws out some of the juice, which becomes part of the vinaigrette.

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 1/2 pounds mixed citrus (such as oranges, blood oranges, and/or grapefruit)
1/2 cup kumquats, thinly sliced, seeds removed (optional)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons orange-flower or rose water
Large pinch of kosher salt
1 avocado, cut into large pieces
3 tablespoons salted or unsalted, roasted pistachios, finely crushed
3 tablespoons tarragon leaves
Extra-virgin olive oil (for drizzling)

Steps:

  • Using a paring knife, remove peel and white pith from citrus, being careful not to remove too much of the flesh. Slice citrus into 1/2"-thick rounds, then cut into 1 1/2" pieces (it looks cool and is less fussy if pieces aren't too exact in shape and size). Transfer to a medium bowl and add kumquats, if using, lemon juice, orange-flower water, and salt. Toss and let sit 5 minutes so citrus can release some of their juices.
  • Transfer citrus, leaving juice behind, to a large plate. Tuck avocado in between and around citrus.
  • Spoon citrus juice over salad, scatter pistachios and tarragon over, and drizzle with oil.

CITRUS WATER

Citrus Water image

A pretty simple and cool concept but I have always been afraid to try it for fear of not getting the right combination but I decided to go for it and this turned out terrific!

Categories     Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 - orange
1 - lemon
1 - lime
2 cup(s) ice cubes
1 gallon water

Steps:

  • thoroughly wash fruit
  • slice fruit, put in container and "muddle" which means to just sort of push on it to get the juices out but you don't want to crush the fruit
  • add ice, then water. Stir. Let sit for about an hour and enjoy. The longer you let it sit, the more fruit you will taste.
  • VARIATIONS: You can use any fruit or herbs that you want, it all depends on taste. I thought this would be wonderful with some mint but I didn't have any on hand and didn't want to pay the grocery store price for it.
