A very tasty dip when you are looking for a hot appetizer. It is an alternative to the popular hot artichoke dip. The recipe has been used in my family for too many years to recall the origin of the recipe.

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 (2 1/2 ounce) jar chipped beef, snipped into smaller pieces
1 teaspoon garlic salt
4 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup green onion, chopped
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish (optional)
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Mix softened cream cheese, snipped chipped beef, garlic salt, milk, onions, black pepper and horseradish.
  • Fold in sour cream.
  • Pour into a lightly sprayed one quart casserole dish; sprinkle chopped pecans on top.
  • Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Serve warm with your choice of crackers.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 jar dried beef, sliced, cut into small pieces
1 cup mayonnaise, fat reduced ok
1 cup sour cream, fat reduced ok
1 teaspoon dill, do not add more....it will get very salty
1 teaspoon celery seed
2 teaspoons fresh onions, minced (amount to your taste)
1 loaf bread, unsliced (use your favorite bread)

Steps:

  • Slice the top of the bread off.
  • Using a knife cut out the inside (being careful not to cut all the way through the bread). Cut the hollowed out bread and the cut off top into bite sized squares.
  • Put in a sealed container.
  • Mix the rest of the ingredients together and put in the bread "bowl" on a platter.
  • Arrange the bread squares around the bowl.
  • I always buy extra bread for dipping.
  • Don't forget to eat the bowl too.
  • All of this can be made days ahead and the dip actually is BETTER after several days.

This is an easy cold dip that my husband begs me to make every holiday. I originally got the recipe from my mother-in-law, and I substituted chives for the green onion since I am allergic to onions.
