A twist on the popular Rice Krispies® treat with Funfetti® cake mix and Fruity Pebbles® cereal!

½ cup butter
1 (16 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
2 tablespoons bourbon
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup cake mix with candy bits (such as Pillsbury® Funfetti®)
5 cups crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies®), divided
2 cups fruit-flavored breakfast cereal (such as Post® Fruity Pebbles®), divided
1 pinch sea salt

Steps:

  • Line a 9x13-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt butter in a large pot over medium-low heat, cooking and stirring until butter is golden brown and smells nutty, 3 to 4 minutes. Stir marshmallows into brown butter and cook until melted, 2 to 3 minutes. Add bourbon and 1 teaspoon salt; stir until incorporated. Mix cake mix into marshmallow mixture until dissolved; remove pot from heat.
  • Mix 1/2 the rice cereal and 1/2 the fruit-flavored cereal into marshmallow mixture until evenly coated. Mix remaining rice cereal and fruit-flavored cereal into marshmallow-cereal mixture; press into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle sea salt over the top.

The things are the talk of every play group in my area so when I received this recipe from a friend I had to finally give them a try. If you like Rice Krispies treats and yellow cake then you will love these. Kids go crazy over them and I can't say I blame them. They pack all of the fun of Rice Krispies treats with a kick of yummy cake batter and sprinkles! Great for birthday parties!

3 tablespoons butter, melted
10 1/2 ounces mini marshmallows
1/2 cup yellow cake mix, unprepared
5 cups Rice Krispies
candy sprinkles

Steps:

  • Over med-low heat, melt butter in a large pot.
  • Add marshmallows.
  • When marshmallows start to melt, spoon in the cake batter.
  • Stir until combined.
  • Add sprinkles (as much as you like).
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in Rice Krispies Cereal until coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  • Press into a 9 x 13 pan. (Use a oiled offset spatula to make pressing easier since it's really sticky).
  • Top with more sprinkles.
  • Let cool, cut into squares and enjoy!

3 Tbsp butter
10 oz bag mini-marshmallows
1/3 c yellow cake mix (dry)
6 c crispy rice cereal
1 3/4 oz container of sprinkles

Steps:

  • 1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows.
  • 2. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in (dry) cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined.
  • 3. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture.
  • 4. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix.
  • 5. Press into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles.
  • 6. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting.
