2 cups fresh strong brewed coffee (I use decaf)
1 unsweetened chocolate square, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 cup thawed whipped topping

Steps:

  • Place coffee and chocolate in a heavy saucepan; cook on very low heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is well blended, stirring constantly with whisk.
  • Stir in sugar and cinnamon.
  • Bring to boil on medium heat; cook until sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly.
  • Gradually add milk and vanilla, stirring until well blended.
  • Cook until heated through, stirring occasionally.
  • Pour into 4 large cups.
  • Top with whipped topping.
  • Garnish with a light sprinkling of additional cinnamon, if desired.

1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup sugar
1 quart milk
2 cups hot strong black coffee or 3 tablespoons instant coffee granules, dissolved in
2 cups hot water
1/2 pint chocolate ice cream
whipped cream, for garnish
chocolate shavings, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan with wire whisk or spoon, stir together cocoa and sugar.
  • Over medium heat, slowly add milk until well blended.
  • Add 2 cups of hot strong black coffee while mixing constantly.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Ladle into 6 (8-ounce) mugs.
  • Top each with spoonful of ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate.

2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped finely
1 cup strong coffee
3 tablespoons sugar
1 pinch salt
3 cups milk, scalded
whipped cream, to top (optional)

Steps:

  • Stir the coffee and the chocolate in the top of a double boiler over direct heat until the chocolate is melted and completely blended into the coffee.
  • Mix in a few grains salt and the sugar.
  • Boil for 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Place the top of the double boiler over hot water in the bottom.
  • Gradually mix in the scalding milk (do not boil!).
  • When the mixture is near the boiling point, beat with an electric mixer until light and frothy.
  • Pour into 4 cups or mugs and top with whipped cream if desired.

3 Tbsp sugar
1 c very strong coffee, hot
3 c milk
1 qt coffee ice cream

Steps:

  • 1. Combine chocolate, sugar and coffee.
  • 2. Stir over low heat until all is blended.
  • 3. Scald milk and add to the coffee mix.
  • 4. Cook over hot water for about 10 minutes.
  • 5. Whip until frothy; chill.
  • 6. Pour into tall chilled glasses and top with a scoop of ice cream.
