½ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup no margarine butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 ½ cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
⅓ cup not margarine butter
⅔ cup packed brown sugar
3 tbsp milk
2 cups powdered sugar
½ tsp vanilla
½ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Beat sugars, butter, vanilla, and eggs in a large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with a wooden spoon.
  • Beat until light and fluffy.
  • Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Spread in an ungreased 13x9-inch baking dish.
  • Bake 20 to 23 minutes or until golden brown and a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool completely, about 45 minutes.
  • Frost with brown sugar frosting.
  • Immediately sprinkle with pecans.
  • Cut into 6 rows by 6 rows.
  • To make frosting, melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan over very low heat.
  • Stir in brown sugar.
  • Cook over low heat 2 minutes.
  • Stir constantly.
  • Stir in milk.
  • Cook until mixture comes to a full rolling boil.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Gradually stir in powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Mixing well using a wooden spoon after each addition.
  • Mix until smooth and spreadable. If necessary, add more milk, a few drops at a time.

1/2 teaspoon koser salt
12 Tablespoons (170 g) unsalted butter (melted, slightly cooled)
1 1/2 cups (320 g) packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs (room temperature)
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups (340 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Adjust oven rack to middle position; heat oven to 350° F. Grease with cooking spray or line a 13 by 9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in medium bowl; set aside.
  • Melt the butter over medium heat and allow to cool slightly. Whisk melted butter and sugar together in medium bowl until combined.
  • Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  • Using rubber spatula, fold dry ingredients into egg mixture until just combined; do not overmix. Fold in the assortment of mix-ins and turn batter into prepared pan, smoothing top with rubber spatula.
