BEE STING CHICKEN WINGS

Bee Sting Chicken Wings image

The star of this chicken wings recipe really is the sauce. It has just the perfect amount of spice, with a hint of garlic flavor and a lovely sweet honey taste. The breading is fantastic too. It gives the wings a nice crunchy texture. These will be great for game day.

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 lb chicken wings or boneless breast, cleaned and prepared
1 c buttermilk
2 c flour (does not matter if all-purpose or self-rising)
2 Tbsp garlic powder
2 tsp pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
1 tsp chipotle pepper powder (optional)
oil for frying
BEE STING SAUCE
1 stick butter
1 1/2 c Franks Red Hot or whatever hot sauce you use
1/2 c honey (more if you want it sweeter)
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp garlic puree or super fine minced garlic (yes Tbsp I said it is garlicky, less if you want less)
2 tsp mustard powder (or 1 tsp yellow mustard)

Steps:

  • 1. The best thing about this recipe for the sauce is it is that you can tweak the amounts until you get it the way you like it best! And, baste for the chicken and chops on the grill!
  • 2. Clean and prepare chicken place in bowl and pour buttermilk over it. Set aside.
  • 3. In a separate bowl or gallon size Ziploc bag, mix flour and all dry ingredients together. Set aside.
  • 4. In a sauce pan melt the butter. When the butter has melted, add all other ingredients and bring to a low boil. Reduce heat to low and let simmer while you make your chicken.
  • 5. Heat enough oil in a deep skillet, pan or deep fryer (whatever you use to fry in). Get heat up to 350-375 degrees.
  • 6. While oil is heating up add all the chicken to the flour mix, shaking buttermilk off as you add it to the dry mix.
  • 7. Fry chicken wings until done (bone-in wings take around 15 mins. and so does the chicken breast) Bumping heat up and down as needed to fry the chicken until done.
  • 8. Remove chicken to a paper towel covered plate or rack to drain. When all chicken is done and drained place chicken into a large bowl and slowly pour sauce over and toss to coat. You might not need all the sauce to coat I pour half over chicken and toss then serve it with the sauce on the side to dip in :)
  • 9. ENJOY! Happy Cooking!!

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 pounds chicken wings, tips discarded
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (add more if you can stand it)
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 cup honey
½ cup butter, melted
½ cup hot sauce

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and lightly oil grate.
  • Wash the wings well and pat dry with paper towel. Season the meat with cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook the chicken wings on preheated grill until cooked through and juices run clear, 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the wings. Brush the wings liberally using 1/2 cup of honey while they are cooking.
  • Melt the butter, pour into a large bowl and mix in the remaining 1/2 cup of honey and hot sauce. Remove the wings from the grill and immediately toss them in the hot honey butter sauce to coat. Serve the wings 'wet' or return them to the grill for 1 minute per side to set the sauce.
