I am posting this yummy dessert recipe for the Hawaii region of the world tour event. This is based on a recipe that is from "The Best of the Best Hawaii Cookbook", that I adapted for my tastes.

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 c banana chunks
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 c flour
6 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 c butter, cold
6 Tbsp sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 unbaked, 9-inch pie shell

Steps:

  • 1. Combine bananas and lemon juice and let stand 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • 2. In a small bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture looks mealy. Add sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to bananas and mix gently. Spread crumbs to edge of pie. Bake 40 minutes.
  • 3. I recommend serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!!

Yummy and different banana pie made like Dutch apple pie with a brown sugar crumb topping. Make it easy by using a prepared refrigerated pie crust.

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 cups sliced bananas (about 6 bananas)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
unbaked pie shell (can use refrigerated)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Combine bananas and lemon juice and let sit for 15 minutes.
  • Combine flour, sugar, butter and nuts and set aside.
  • Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and add to bananas.
  • Pour into pie shell and sprinkle flour mixture on top.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.

How to make Banana Crunch Pie

5 1/3 tablespoons (1/3 cup) butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1 cup corn flake crumbs
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 medium-sized bananas

Steps:

  • What To Do:
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat; stir in sugar and cinnamon, if desired, and cook until bubbles form. Remove from heat and stir in the crumbs. Press mixture evenly over bottom and up sides of a 9-inch pie plate; chill.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy; blend in sweetened condensed milk. Add 1/3 cup lemon juice and the vanilla (see Note); stir until smooth and thick.
  • Cut 3 of the bananas into thin slices then line bottom of chilled crust with banana slices. Turn filling into crust. Refrigerate 2 to 3 hours, or until firm.
  • Cut remaining 2 bananas into thin slices; dip slices in remaining 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Arrange banana slices over top of pie.
