1-1/2 pounds bulk spicy pork sausage
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can (31 ounces) pork and beans
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15-1/2 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15-1/2 ounces) black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1-1/2 cups ketchup
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground mustard

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook and crumble sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Add green pepper and onion; saute until tender. Drain. Add remaining ingredients., Pour into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Cover and bake at 325° for 1 hour. Uncover; bake 20-30 minutes longer or until bubbly.

An awesome traditional favorite to have at every cookout or holiday table. These smokey, sweet beans are great with a variety of meats and are a wonderful addition to any meal. This is a great side dish your sure to love!

1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, diced
½ pound bacon
1 (28 ounce) can baked beans (such as Bush's Original®)
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
1 cup brown sugar, divided

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Melt the butter in a skillet over low heat. Cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, 10 to 15 minutes. Meanwhile, place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate. Cut bacon into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  • Combine the baked beans, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and onions in a 2-quart casserole dish. Stir in 2/3 of the cooked bacon and 1/4 of the brown sugar until evenly mixed. Cover the bean mixture with the remaining bacon, and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until hot and bubbly, about 45 minutes.

This is probably one of the easiest dinner meals to make and as a kid i absolutely loved this dish (many fond memories!). It can easily be prepared ahead and placed in the fridge ready to go to put in the oven.

5 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 3cm pieces
100 ml milk, approximately
15 g butter
500 g beef sausages
1 (850 g) tin baked beans
1/2-3/4 cup grated cheese

Steps:

  • Place potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to the boil and cook for 20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Drain potatoes before returning them to the pot over a high heat. Toss for a few moments to evaporate any excess water.
  • Add the milk and butter to the pan and mash potatoes until smooth. Cover with a lid and set aside.
  • Heat a little oil in a large fry-pan. Add the sausages and fry, turning occasionally, until cooked through. Set aside and allow to cool slightly.
  • When sausages are cool enough to handle cut sausages into 3cm lengths.
  • In a large casserole dish, mix together the sausages and baked beans until well combined. Spread the mash potatoes evenly over the top of the baked bean mixture. Top with cheese.
  • Bake, uncovered, for about half an hour or until the cheese has melted and the casserole has heated through.

This is great for kids on a cold winters night - simple but tasty.

Steps:

  • OK so brown the sausages in a frying pan - not fully cooked just browned. Then add to the slow cooker.
  • Add the chopped onion to the slow cooker and gently soften, after 2 minutes, add the Garlic and season with salt and pepper. Then add to the slow cooker.
  • Add the Potatoes, chopped tomatoes to the slow cooker and cook for about 6 hours on low.
  • After 6 hours, add the tin of baked beans, the mushroom and the Worcester sauce - the give it a good old stir. Cook for another 1.5 - 2 hours.

A comforting and hearty one-pot sausage stew with chorizo, smoked paprika and plenty of vegetables

2 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 medium sticks celery, finely chopped
1 yellow pepper, chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
6 cooking chorizo sausages (about 400g)
6 pork sausages (about 400g)
3 fat garlic cloves, chopped
1 ½ tsp sweet smoked paprika
½ tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp dried thyme
125ml white wine
2 x 400g cans cherry tomatoes or chopped tomatoes
2 sprigs fresh thyme
1 chicken stock cube
1 x 400g can aduki beans, drained and rinsed
1 bunch chives, snipped (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat 2 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil in a large heavy-based pan.
  • Add 1 finely chopped onion and cook gently for 5 minutes.
  • Add 2 finely chopped medium celery sticks, 1 chopped yellow pepper and 1 chopped red pepper and cook for a further 5 mins.
  • Add 6 chorizo sausages and 6 pork sausages and fry for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in 3 chopped garlic cloves, 1 ½ tsp sweet smoked paprika, ½ tsp ground cumin and 1 tbsp dried thyme and continue cooking for 1 - 2 mins or until the aromas are released.
  • Pour in 125ml white wine and use a wooden spoon to remove any residue stuck to the pan.
  • Add two 400g cans of tomatoes, and 2 sprigs of fresh thyme and bring to a simmer. Crumble in the chicken stock cube and stir.
  • Cook for 40 minutes. Stir in a 400g drained and rinsed can of aduki beans and cook for a further five minutes.
  • Remove the thyme sprigs, season with black pepper and stir through some snipped chives, if using. Serve.

This is not your basic pork and beans but a quick version of a classic French dish.

12 slices white sandwich bread
Coarse salt and ground pepper
2 packages (1 pound each) smoked Polish sausage, halved lengthwise, cut into 2 1/2-inch pieces
2 large onions, chopped
8 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup tomato paste
1 can (14.5 ounces) reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 cup dry red wine
1 teaspoon dried thyme
4 cans (14.5 ounces each) Great Northern or cannellini beans, rinsed and drained

Steps:

  • In a food processor, pulse bread until large crumbs form (you should have about 6 cups); season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a 6-quart heavy-bottom saucepan, cook sausage, onions, and garlic, stirring occasionally, until onions are translucent and sausage is starting to brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Add tomato paste, broth, wine, thyme, and 2 cups water; bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer; add beans. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened but still soupy, about 10 minutes.
  • Stir in 2 cups of the breadcrumbs. Divide sausage mixture between two 3-quart shallow baking dishes or eight 10-ounce ramekins. Top with remaining breadcrumbs.
  • Bake, on a baking sheet, until topping is golden, 30 minutes.
