AUNT MARYS 7-LAYER SALAD

i dont like a typical 7 layer sald but my aunt makes this at all family gatherings and then i get the leftovers when everybody is done. its better the next day. This is by no means a typical 7-layer salad

1 large bottle ranch dressing
1 head of lettuce chopped
1 small red onion diced
1 bag sheddred cheeses any kind
1 pkg bacon, cooked crumbled
1 medium head of cauliflower

Steps:

  • 1. cook bacon and crumble set aside
  • 2. chop lettuce,cauliflower, and onion put in bowl along with shreded cheese then add bacon and mix.
  • 3. add the ranch dressing and mix all together keep refridgerated until ready to use.

This is a wonderful recipe which can have ingredients added or subtracted. Even if there is only two of you to eat it, don't cut the recipe in half because I'm sure you'll want more.

4 eggs
1 head lettuce, torn into small pieces
1 onion, chopped
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts
1 (16 ounce) package frozen green peas
2 cups mayonnaise
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ pound bacon - cooked and crumbled
1 large tomato, chopped

Steps:

  • Place eggs in a large saucepan and completely cover with water. Bring to a boil. Cover and remove from heat. Let stand for 12 minutes. Remove eggs and chill.
  • In a 9x13 inch dish, layer the lettuce, onion, water chestnuts and peas.
  • In a medium bowl combine the mayonnaise, sugar, seasoned salt and garlic powder. Mix until smooth. Spread over the top evenly over the top of the peas. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Peel and chop hard-cooked eggs.
  • Remove salad from refrigerator and top with the bacon, eggs and tomato. Serve.

My Great-Aunt Mary makes this shortbread by hand every christmas, and it is the lightest, butteriest, most delicious tasting shortbread I have ever had. Use berry sugar to gain the right cookie texture.

3 cups flour
1/2 cup berry sugar
1 lb salted butter (at room temperature)

Steps:

  • Beat the sugar and butter with a spoon until creamy. In three batches, sift and mix the flour into the sugar-butter mixture. Mix well, until fluffy. (my Aunt Mary uses a wooden spoon for mixing, but you can use electric beaters).
  • Pat the dough flat onto a greased cookie sheet, covering about 3/4 of the pan (I pat the dough into neatly formed rectangular shape). Puncture the dough at regular intervals with a fork. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Cut into 15 pieces per pan (1 inch wide). Bake 1/2 hour at 300-325°F Let cool.

My aunt used to make this before they moved for holidays it became a tradition after that and my family would always make this.

1 head lettuce
1 pkg frozen peas
1 c sliced celery
1/2 c chopped green bell pepper
1/2 c chopped green onion
6-8 slice cooked sliced bacon, crumbled
4 hard boiled eggs, sliced
shredded cheese to put on top of salad
DRESSING FOR SALAD
2 c mayonaise
2 Tbsp sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Layer each ingredient in order in a 9x13 pan.
  • 2. Top with 2 cups Mayo mixed with 2 Tb sugar.
  • 3. Top with Grated Cheese.

¾ pound sliced bacon
1 large head iceberg lettuce, shredded
¼ cup sliced onion
¼ cup thinly sliced celery
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas
1 cup mayonnaise, or to taste
1 tablespoon white sugar
2 tablespoons grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
4 tomatoes, cut into wedges
2 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Steps:

  • Spread the lettuce out on a large serving dish or bowl. Sprinkle the onion, celery, water chestnuts and frozen peas (unthawed) over the lettuce in layers. Spread mayonnaise over the top like a frosting. Sprinkle with sugar and grated cheese. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  • Before serving, sprinkle crumbled bacon over the top, and garnish with tomato wedges, slices of hard-cooked egg, and parsley.

1 head iceberg lettuce - rinsed, dried, and chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 head cauliflower, chopped
16 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 (32 ounce) jar mayonnaise
1 (16 ounce) package frozen green peas

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  • In a large serving bowl place a thin layer of 1/2 of the listed ingredients. Begin with the lettuce followed by onion, cauliflower, cheese, bacon and peas. Repeat.
  • Top the salad with mayonnaise and garnish with a sprinkle of crumbled bacon.
