This has a terrific aroma and taste. These scones are perfect for tea.

2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup butter, chilled
1 apple - peeled, cored and shredded
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons white sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Measure flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt into a large bowl. Cut in butter or margarine until crumbly. Add shredded apple and milk. Stir to form a soft dough.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently 8 to 10 times. Pat into two 6-inch circles. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Score each into 6 pie-shaped wedges.
  • Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 15 minutes, or until browned and risen. Serve warm with butter.

I found this on the 'net in a hungry search for ever more scone recipes. This was listed as being a prize winner in a recipe contest for wheat germ. They don't contain egg so a true scone aficionado would probably say these are a biscuit not a scone.

2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup wheat germ
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine, cold
1 large tart apple, peeled and finely chopped, about 1 1/4 cups
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup honey
2 teaspoons wheat germ
2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Combine the apple, milk and honey; add to dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn onto a floured surface, knead gently 4 or 5 times.
  • Gently pat dough into a 9-in. circle, about 1/2 inch thick. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle over dough. Cut into eight wedges and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes.

2 cups self-rising flour
1 pinch salt
1 tablespoon superfine white sugar
⅓ cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 medium apple - peeled, cored, and chopped
5 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons honey
1 large egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
  • Sift flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Mix in sugar. Rub in butter with your fingers until the mixture resembles bread crumbs. Stir in apples until combined.
  • Mix milk, honey, and egg together in a separate bowl. Add to the dry ingredients and mix to form a dough.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 3/4 inch. Cut scones out with a cookie cutter of your choice. Place on the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool before serving.
