These homemade donuts feature the yummy flavor combo of apple and cinnamon. Then gently coat the fritters in cinnamon sugar and drizzle with warm maple syrup. They're incredible!!

crisco canola oil (for frying)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup maple syrup or 1/2 cup table syrup
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 medium apple, peeled, cored and chopped to make 1 cup
1 tablespoon crisco canola oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Heat 2-3 inches of oil to 365F in deep fryer or deep saucpan.
  • CINNAMON SUGAR: While oil heats, combine sugar and cinnamon in a resealable food storage bag.
  • SPICED SYRUP: Mix syrup and cinnamon and heat in a microwave safe bowl or on low heat in a saucepan. Keep warm while peparing fritters.
  • BATTER: Combine egg and milk in large bowl. Stir in apple and oil.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in another bowl. add to egg mixture. Stir until just mixed.
  • Drop by Tablespoonfuls a few at a time into hot oil. Fry about 4 minutes or until golden brown. Turn as needed for even browning. Remove with slottled spoon. Drain on paper towels.
  • Gently shake fritters in cinnamon sugar mixture. Place in a shallow serving bowl. Drizzle with warm syrup. Serve warm.

1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup Splenda granular
1/4 cup cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1 cup sour cream
1 cup self-rising flour
9 apples, peeled cored and sliced horizontally, about 1/4 inch thick
3/4 cup Splenda granular (optional)
2 teaspoons cinnamon (optional)
2 teaspoons nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon allspice (optional)
2 teaspoons cornstarch (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat oil to 375 degrees f.
  • combine in a bowl the beaten egg, milk, spelenda, nutmug, all spice, cinnamon, and sour cream. mix well and add flour.
  • dip apples in batter and carefully place in oil. cook for 1 to 2 minutes. turn and cook 1 to 2 minutes more. remove fritters and drain. maybe sprinkled with powdered sugar, if desired. serve warm but i prefer cold with sugar free ice cream.
  • sugar free powdered sugar.
  • ¾ cup of splenda.
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (optional).
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg (optional).
  • 1 teaspoon all spice (optional).
  • 2 teaspoons of cornstarch.
  • place ingredients in a blender jar. cover and blend until splensa sweetener is a very fine powder. and that is your powdered sugar. it is so good.

Canola oil (for frying; about 5-7 cups)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
Kosher salt
1 1/2 cups cold beer (preferably lager or pilsner)
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
2 Honeycrisp or other firm sweet-tart apples, peeled, cored, sliced into scant 1/4"-thick rings (8-10 rings per apple)

A candy thermometer

Steps:

  • Fit a wide heavy pot with candy thermometer. Pour in oil to a depth of 2" and heat over medium-high until thermometer registers 375ºF.
  • Meanwhile, whisk flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 3/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 1 1/4 tsp. salt in a large bowl. Add beer in a slow, steady stream, whisking until smooth.
  • Whisk pepper, cardamom, 1/8 tsp. salt, and remaining 3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  • Working with 4-5 slices at a time, dip apples in batter, shaking off excess. Fry until golden, about 1 1/2 minutes on each side. Transfer fritters with a slotted spoon to paper towels to drain. Immediately toss in spiced-sugar mixture and serve warm.
