Time 45m

Yield 5 Cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups melted cocoa butter
2 cups baking soda
1 cup citric acid
food coloring (optional)
essential oils or fragrance oil (skin-safe)

Steps:

  • Steps: Melt the cocoa butter, add colorant and fragrance, mix.
  • Then add powdered ingredients, stir well and pour into small molds, such as a fancy ice cube tray.
  • Let sit in fridge or freezer until set then pop them out of the molds onto waxed paper or parchment paper and let sit for a short while.
  • Store in baggies or airtight container.
  • Use one or two per bath, and be sure you have a non-slip mat in place, as the oils may make for a slick surface in your tub.
  • Note: Be sure that your"parts" are based upon weight, that the cocoa butter is melted when you weigh it, and that your"parts" are small amounts, such as a tablespoon or two.
  • You can also substitute the citric acid with more baking soda and/or sea salt to make non-fizzing melts, however the fizziness helps to slowly disperse your oils through your bath.

Time 20m

Yield 27 small balls

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 ounces baking soda
3 tablespoons oatmeal, finely ground
1 ounce citric acid
2 ounces cocoa butter, chopped into small pieces
1 teaspoon essential oil

Steps:

  • Mix baking soda, oatmeal & citric acid together. Set aside.
  • Melt cocoa butter in microwave in a glass container. Add dry ingredients to melted cocoa butter. Add essential oils.
  • Pour in ice cube trays or small molds. Place in freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Store in glass jars or plastic bags. Keep cool.
  • Note: What you are getting is melted cocoa butter that has solidified with the baking soda and citric acid binding it together. The molds you choose won't matter like they do for bath bombs. But -- don't make the molds too big or you are are going to waste product and your bath will be a sludge. I found ice cube trays that are shaped like little balls. You don't want any more than 1 - 1-1/2 tsp of product per cube. I have found that Ikea sometimes has really cute ice cube trays shaped in stars, hearts and circles with holes in the middle. Or.if you can get your hands on them -- candy molds would work very well, you would just need more for your bath.
