Steps:
- Sift together the dry ingredients (flour through salt). Dredge nuts with 1 cup of flour mixture and set aside. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs; one at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and applesauce to the creamed mixture, beginning with the flour and end with the flour pecan mixture, careful not to over mix. Spread batter into a greased/floured 13x9 pan.
- Bake in 375° oven for approx. 40-45 minutes until tester comes out clear. While cake bakes prepare topping: Melt butter in a small saucepan, add brown sugar and milk. Cook over medium heat until the mixture boils. Turn off heat and let stand until cake is ready.
- When the cake is baked, poke holes into cake with wooden toothpick. Spoon the topping all over the cake spreading evenly and let soak into toothpick holes. Return cake to the oven for approx. 5 minutes or until topping is bubbly. Remove and let cool on wire rack.
